For those interested in scansion, the ode is composed in alternating lines of meter. The first consists of four dactyls or spondees followed by three trochees. The fourth dactyl/spondee always ends at the end of a word ("vice" in line one). The seond line is iambic trimeter catalectic: 5 1/2 iambs, but the first, third and fifth iambs may have a long first syallable.
