One of a group of impersonal verbs expressing emotion (miseret, paenitet, pudet, piget and taedet) which take the acc. of the person affected by the emotion and regularly the gen of the cause or object of the emotion, i.e., in English idiom, "we are ashamed of (+ acc. of person and gen. of reason for shame). The three "p" verbs maybalso expresshe cause or object of the emotion by a subject infinitive or a "quod" ("the fact that...") clause with the indicative. Te pudeat haec dicere. "You should be ashamed to say these things/words.". Eum paenitebat quod nos reliquerat. "He was ashamed that he had left us."
