Appenninigenus, -i = (adiective) that has its origin in the Appenines. - the App. forms a complex of mountains in Italy, as I guess. The whole word 'Appenninigenae' is ofcourse chosen by Ovid, since it fits so well in the hexameter. This is one of the reasons, why Ovid uses Greek names, etc. so often in his verses.
