▲ ▼ | 'trepidantia': part. praes. neutr.pl. with 'trepidare = to tremble'; the whole construction goes: [trepidantia exta - bidentum mactatarum - consulit - Cipus] = C. consulted the trembling bowels of the slaughtered animals - this was ofcourse everyday, common practice in the ancient world; humans had imagined, that by killing animals and (of half-killing them) and cutting them open and looking into their inner organs, they could forsee the future. The complete madness of this! Is was abuse of animals also. Christianity ended this insanity. How in the world does one consider to be able to say something, that makes sense, about the future by looking into the bowels of a pig or a cow! |
