The Daulian = the Daulian bird

Daulias, Daulidados = the Daulian, from Daulis in Phocis. Here the Daulian refers to Procne, who was married to the king of Daulis, Tereus. Ovid has a lengthy treatment of the story in Book VI of the Metamorphoses.
