▲ ▼ | "prohibēre" and "vēto" take an object infinitive; other verbs of forbidding and hindering take a clause of prevention, similar to a purpose clause, introduced by "nē," "quōminus" or, if the verb of preventing is negative, "quin," with its verb in the subjunctive. Here are examples:
1. Nihil obstat ne Romā discēdas. ("obsto, -are, stiti, -statum," stand in the way, hinder, block (w. dat.)
2. Timor me deterruit quominus in senatu bene dicerem.
3. Bellum non deterrebit quin agricolae in agris laborent.
