circumspectabant ora...intuentium: they were looking around at the faces of the leaders looking at one another (literally: "of others looking at others"). The phrase aliorum alios is a classic Latin idiom using a doubled pronoun to express reciprocal action ("each other" or "one another"); aliorum is genitive plural, matching the leaders (principum); alios is accusative plural, serving as the direct object of the participle intuentium. Instead of writing a clumsy phrase for "each other," Livy nests the pronouns together to vividly illustrate a crowd of leaders turning their heads back and forth, silently looking to someone else to speak up first.
