Tantalus, - i - son of Zeus and the Pluto nymph, king of the Lydian, was launched to Hades, having to stand in the middle of a river whose water deviated from his thirsty mouth. Perhaps he had disclosed to the men the secret of the gods, of who he had been the supreme priest, or had stolen the ambrosia from the table of gods and offered to the men.
